- Sunday Feb 16 - We will examine yet another scripture attributed to Paul, a Roman citizen, a Jew and a businessman. In this session our attention is drawn to a particular verse in Paul’s first letter to the congregation at Corinth. The text is from First Corinthians 15:20 “Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who have slept.” Who is Paul talking about – those who have slept? The class will make use of John Dominic Crossan's scholarship and his video to see differences between icons, paintings and Eastern art which informs the meaning and understanding of the Greek word/term for Resurrection.
- Sunday Feb 23 - The Church's School: On A Mission for Unity. Dr. Crossan is helpful providing time and place references to the writings of the New Testament particularly the books attributed to the Apostle Paul. “Paul’s letters and Luke’s “Acts” give evidence that their individual agendas were radically different.” How were they different? Paul’s “program” focused on a life and community in Christ which stood in non-violent resistance to the greed and violence of Rome. Luke’s “program” seems to have been focused on the expectation that Christianity and Rome could form an alliance. Sounds intriguing – and it is! l This will be the last session of this 8 part video series with Teacher / Scholar John Dominic Crossan.

1 March to 12 April 2020 - Lenten Focus: Sabbath and Jubilee
6 Weeks through April 5, Palm Sunday; No class 19 April (Easter) Led by Ruth Jewell
Ruth will be our guide on our 40-day Lenten journey and asks for us to take a deepened focus on the concepts of Sabbath and Jubilee and how they can provide grounding and focus in our busy lifestyles. Ruth will help us dig into the book Sabbath and Jubilee by Rick Lowery. We invite all to nestle into the meaning of Sabbath as we travel in the reflective season of Lent. Let the church office know if you would like to have a book ordered for you.
Ruth Jewell received her Masters of Divinity from Seattle University, School of Theology and Ministry in 2013. Since Graduation she has been busy studying theology and exploring scripture. When not studying I am reading fun stuff, gardening, and playing with our Chihuahua’s Louis and Esmerelda, our Parrot George and our brand-new member of the family Sweet Pea the canary.
